HBB works with high tech companies in the Bristol and Bath region promoting, enhancing and developing technology.
We are building vibrant communities interested in the development and application of high technologies to solve business and societal challenges.
Our flagships are our Special Interest Groups (SIGs) involving companies, universities and research institutions.
These events are all designed with, and for, engineers and developers to share their passion and expertise with local, regional and international colleagues.
An example would be DigiLocal®. We identified a gap in the provision of high quality, regular tech clubs for kids outside school.
DigiLocal provides a box-of-bits that can be taken to any youth centre, library,or school, with a 13A socket (it helps to have WiFi but even that’s not critical). After the 1hr session the box moves to the next location. This maximises our utilisation, and eliminates the liability for the youth centre from having several thousand pounds of laptops lying around.
DigiLocal is designed to work with communities for the long term. Regular weekly sessions help build familiarity and confidence with coding principles, and allows young people to tackle larger projects than can be achieved in a 1-hour taster session.
We work closely with partners such as CodeClub, CoderDojo, STEMNET and others. This ensures that mentors are high quality and DBS-checked, and that the project content has educational merit, as well as a high fun factor.
Bath & Bristol are great places to be collaborating in and innovating around high tech, but we don’t always shout loudly enough about what we’re doing. HBB will champion the work of our SIGs and our Members specifically, as well as generally promoting everything that’s great about the high tech scene in Bath and Bristol.
